Once a familiar sight along Dutch canals, streets and avenues, mature Dutch elm has become a rare and precious hardwood. At WOODlife, we rescue these remarkable old trees from being chipped for biomass and give their timber a new life. With its expressive, interlocked grain and rich natural character, Dutch elm is transformed into distinctive floors and architectural wood surfaces designed to last for generations. Dutch elm Finishes
Dutch elm has a character unlike any other wood species. Its naturally twisted and interlocked grain creates a lively, rippled figure that gives every board its own distinctive character. Our finishes are carefully developed to enhance rather than disguise these natural features, bringing out the depth, movement and warm tones of the timber while preserving its unmistakably authentic appearance.
Dutch elm Dimensions
Due to the limited availability of Dutch elm raw material, we aim to use our elm wood as efficient as possible. Consequently we prefer manufacturing our plank in a random width. Please always check the available widths with us, as stocks may be limited. We strive to always supply 3 widths in the range of 140/180/220/260 mm (5.5"/7.1"/8.7"/10.2").

Dutch elm Gradings
Due to the rare nature of the wood, we supply elm in a Mill Run grading only.
The Mill-Run grading is a mix of cleaner boards, and board that are rich in
character. Elm is characterized by large colour variations and traces of
sapwood, as this is typical for elm.
Dutch elm Patterns
Besides a traditional plank format, WOODlife offers a range of stunning floor patterns in elm, such as: herringbone, chevron, cube, quadro, creative pattern, dutch pattern, and a semi or full trapezium. Click the button below to find out more.
